Training
This training catalogue offers courses specially designed for foreign judges and prosecutors, but it also allows them to undergo training in immersion with their French colleagues on issues that are common to all of them. This year the 2022 edition offers foreign judges and prosecutors the chance to develop their skills in both criminal and civil law, by examining the fundamentals of their profession in greater depth, but also by taking specialised courses in priority areas…

Although the enm has existed since 1958, judicial training has developed considerably over the past 15 years with the creation of schools in many countries. The international department of the enm is supporting the growth of judicial training abroad, in particular through institutional reinforcement projects, which are a central pillar of its development: 10 countries benefited from such support between 2017 and 2019, including abu dhabi, algeria, madagascar, mali, and the democratic republic of congo. The purpose of this feature is to provide an overview of the different support projects that are scheduled in the coming months in spite of the ongoing health crisis.

The ENM internationally
The National School for the Judiciary (ENM) is the only establishment in France which trains future judges and prosecutors, practicing judges and foreign judges. The ENM also provides training for people who do not belong to the judiciary and who are called upon either to exercise judicial functions in the judiciary or to contribute closely to judicial activity.
The French National School for the Judiciary (ENM)
The National School for the Judiciary (ENM) is the only institution in France that trains future and serving French judges and prosecutors, as well as foreign judges and prosecutors. The ENM also trains commercial court judges, non-career judges, employment tribunal judges, conciliators and prosecutor's delegates.
The School's primary mission is the recruitment and training of the representatives of France's judicial authorities, namely its judges and prosecutors. The ENM therefore recruits some 500 trainee judges/prosecutors a year, around half of whom are professionals who are changing career (lawyers, legal officers, civil service managers, etc.). On completion of their initial training, they become judges in the district courts, juvenile judges, investigating judges, sentence enforcement judges or deputy public prosecutors.
The ENM also organises the mandatory in-service training of the approximately 8,000 serving French judges and prosecutors. Almost 500 sessions are organised each year, and they regularly offer places for other professionals in the legal and judicial sectors.
